Ram and Harddrive

Alright...I just got bout 200 sing dollars...which is bout 120 us bucks..
Shud i spend it on ram or harddrive...Its either a 80gb or a 512ram...

ANd which is more important iuo..?I have a gay 310ram and 14gig hdd!!
Will ram be still be effective if i got like only 1 gig left in the hdd :devilish: >?

If you dont keep alot of applications open all at the same time then get the HD but if you do and you dont plan to install anything else for awhile get the ram. Really you should be able to get 512k ram and a 40gb HD for $120.

if u download alot of stuff get harddrive or if comp lags alot cause programs get ram or both of you can here check out a site they are cheap kinda

I went to the store and took a look...ahh..189 bucks for a 512 ram...[that price is sing dollars][I have 240...just spent 40 bcks on a ethernet card and a 4port usb 2.0...left with 200 lol]
Lets see..that leaves me 11 dollars for harddrive/ram..rofl..

Btw hw do u install a hdd?Just slot in it and take the piece of wire and stick it in?

The stall i went to doesnt sell 512mb ram suitable for p3 p4 and amd...its only p4..
Im running on a gay p3 comp....not much problems now...find its running as well as a p4 3.0...:p:

If i buy the 512ram for p3...wat if i upgraded my comp to p4?!?!!!
So...a lil dilemma here :p:

I recommend purchasing the RAM for the computer. Not only will it enhance the speed of your applications, but it will also cut down on loading times and hard drive access will be shortened (no more need for the page file on the hd).

The computer is more of a proportion actually:
1. A fast processor can pump data out and pull data in really really quickly, but if your RAM and hd are slow, the data doesn't arrive as fast as the processor would like, causing it to slow down.

2. Large and fast RAM lets applications run more smoothly and efficiently without lag. However, if you have a slow processor and harddrive, the data does not get placed into RAM quickly enough, nor does it get processed fast, and it slows your RAM.

3. Harddrives offer large random access to your data. The bigger and faster the better. However, if your processor is slow and RAM is slow, the data spewing off of your harddrive can only be taken spoonfuls at a time.

Keep these three things in mind when purchasing computer hardware. They will help you decide which parts you need most in order to recover a dying or really slow computer.

I'd say go with the 40gb hd and 512 ram. Use 2 hds and have more ram

This is what I do,
I used to have 386 MB of PC2700 DDRAM. I upgraded it to 768 and noticed a huge change. With your hard-drive, just burn whatever you can onto CD's and save up for a new hard-drive. If you can't burn the files onto a CD because you don't own a CD/RW, there real cheap, so go ahead and buy one.

Save up and get your stuff later. Computer hardware deppreciates very often... so if you wiat 1/2 a year, prices will be lower by like 10$ at least..

1. Processor speed combined with the speed that the RAM is running at determins the possible speed increase that one will see when more RAM is added.

2. The speed of an HD is determined by a few factors: a.) The speed at which the small disk which store data spin (aka drive RPM's or rotations per minuet). The RPM's of a hd also determin how long of a seek time there is to retrive information b.) Cache size. Here is a dandy article which can tell you all about the perks of large cache's on hd's http://www.vtec.co.uk/hard_disk_cache.asp . Bottom line is its important to have a decent size cache on your hd.

3. When purchasing RAM ensure that you do not waste money on RAM that runs at speeds faster than what your motherboard can handle. If the speed at which the RAM is automatically set for is faster than the fastest speed your motherboard can handle then the computer will automatically underclock the RAM to the correct speed thus null and voiding the money you spent on fast RAM.

4. The most notable way to increase the performance of your computer is to upgrade the processor. If you have the fastest possible processor for you motherboard though it is then required that you purchase a new motherboard and a new processor, in some cases you may also have to purchase new RAM as well depending upon whether or not you use DDR RAM or not.

All the information on what are the max RAM speeds and processor speeds can be found in the user manual for your motherboard. If you can not find that manual it would probably be a good idea to open your computer case and find the serial number and maker of the board and the google for information reguarding that board. If on the other hand you have the manual but just do not understand it take it with you to the electronic's store you are going to purchase the items from and have a techy there check the manual and tell you.

No. My post was more involved than your post was and was far more informative as to what factors in each component need to be looked for. But if you think you covered everything that was in me post and explained all the same things thats fine. I just felt your post lacked all the information that a consumer should have before venturing out to buy a computer part. Maybe I missed a couple of sentences somewhere.

Yea i know prices do drop...by the time they drop a new ver comes out...mayb like a 2gb ram or something..
Or a 800gb sata harddrive lol..
