Zone alarm sucks. Its cuts off many people from the internet completely.

Use a router to connect to another computer in your house that has a firewall on it, or what Jehnova said the router/firewall combo. I've never had trouble with my router ( i have a Linksys Wireless-G has built in firewall)

Eupher-- Wrote:But instead of downloading a firewall from the internet, use a router. Simple, easy, and a lot better than any of the firewalls you can find.

A router will do nothing to protect you. All a router does is allow you to hook up multiple computers to one internet connection. Thats it. UNLESS you get a router/firewall combination. The only problem I have seen with those is that sometimes the firewalls are half-assed and the extra expense spent on the combo deal becomes a loss.

Set the FireWall Security level to Medium.. at least if you play Games..

ZoneAlarm is a good free firewall, I use it.. Along with AVG and Lavasoft. AVG isnt a firewall, It's a virus scanner/cleaner. LavaSoft is good as well, as it does Virus Scans, deletes em, and also checks for spyware.

Theres the website if your interested.

A router makes every port closed until you manually open them. Basically what Windows Firewall does.

Someone in a recent PCMag (i think it was that) was testing popular firewalls, and got more secure results from a port scanner using a cheap D-Link router than using some pay firewalls like Zone Alarm, Norton, etc. Not to say you sholdn't use a firewall, but if I had to only pick one I'd take the router/hw firewall.
