DirectShow player cannot be found
#1
I just bought myself a shiny new ATI Radeon X800XL and I've got all the latest drivers and such, but every time I try to play a Media Player file in my browser, it gives me a blank screen and an error that it can not find Directshow Player. What the hell?

EDIT: Actually, I just got the error again. It says that it cannot "create", not that it cannot "find"...

I suggest reinstalling and double-checking all your drivers, and than if that doesn't work contact their Tech Support team.

Probably because I fail to appreciate the beauty in what I see around me constantly.

Uninstall Windows Media Player, and then reinstall it. That should fix the problem; if it doens't let us know.

It seems like ever since I got this new card, my computer has gone to hell. I just re-downloaded Media Player, and now it's giving me "Internal application error" every time I try to run it.

Quote:Reregister Jscript.dll and Vbscript.dll

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regsvr32 jscript.dll, and then click OK.
3. Click OK.
4. Click Start, and then click Run.
5. In the Open box, type regsvr32 vbscript.dll, and then click OK.
6. Click OK.

If either of the files do not register as expected, or if you receive an error message, the system file may be missing or damaged. To extract the missing file in Microsoft Windows XP, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type msconfig, and then click OK.
3. Click Expand File.
4. In the File to restore box, type the name of the file that you want to restore.
5. In the Restore from box, type the path of the Windows XP .cab file where you want to restore the file, or click Browse From to locate the Windows XP .cab file.

Note The Windows XP .cab files are stored in the I386 folder on the Windows XP CD.

6. In the Save file in box, type the path where you want to extract the new file, or click Browse To to locate the folder that you want.
7. Click Expand.
8. In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click OK. If you are prompted to restart the computer, click Restart.

If that doesn't work, hitting start>run>mplayer2 opens up WMD7 (or something) that you can use until we find a solution for the problem.

Wow. It worked 100%. I thought the whole time it was a driver problem, because the problem only arose after the new video card. Thanks a bunch for your help, Spaz.
