well one of my professors told me recently that the reason muslims hate us goes all the way back to the crusades. but then, they should hate europe more than us or at least the same...

i think its mostly because, as the current most powerful country in the world, we feel a responsibility to police the world and try to help everyone out. and a lot of them feel like we should keep our nose out of their business...even though they might not be around anymore at all if it wasnt for us...

OK Irrelevant, I am proud to be from the US, so proud I list it in my public profile. Where are you from? And although I am not from, or living in, Texas, what would make you say to look in Texas for fat people? The last time I visited Texas, Dallas specifically, they had LOTS of beautiful women, and I thought less than their share of fat ones.

And yes FraterP, we do have large egos, sometimes too large. I do think that as a country we have a lot to be very proud of (and before we get into a messy debate, we have things that we are not proud of too).

They all say we're only looking out for our own interests by protecting countries that benefit us or they claim stick our noses in places that don't belong or that we're egotistical jerks that care only about ourselves...that is until they're invaded.

In my country, I would get away with shouting anything political on the streets, however radical it may be. I will not get interrogated by the police for that. Hell, some people even have these new t-shirts, with extremely anti-socialist slogans on them, such as: "Throw the commies into a furnace", and they actually have pictures of various politicians on them. They get away with it. I don't think that they would in the U.S. American "freedom of speech" is nothing to be proud of in my opinion.

Maybe you do help the american natives, but who brought them to the situation that they are at now? I think that you owe them much more than just "help".

There is nothing illegal about doing that in the United States either. Of course you could if you wanted, you would just make yourself look ridiculous. Why don't you come and see for yourself how many anti-Bush t-shirts/bumper stickers/etc. there are?

He wasn't talking about the american natives. He was talking about natives of other countries that we help out. It's fairly clear you don't know exactly how things are around here. As for the American natives, it wasn't the current government that got them in that situation. It's been this way for ages and they have all the rights the rest of us have.

People hate America because of the images they are given from their own government and fellow citizens of their country. I have a friend that recently moved here from Bolivia. He says everyone there hates America... but now he sees that its for all the wrong reasons. They have extremely misled ideas of what the general American public is like. He says if he had a choice, he would stay because he likes the people more and it's so much easier to make a living.

As for fat and rich, yes, we do have better technology available to us affordably. But why turn envy into hate? Blame your own country for not bringing that to you. And we do have delicious, greasy food for cheap which leads plenty of people to obesity, but if you visit a college campus, you see how quickly that is changing. Staying fit is becoming more important very quickly, and I'd say the people that do care about health at all are on average much more in shape and healthier than the average person in another country. I am most definitely not fat, not unhealthy in any way, and not a rich and arrogant idiot like anyone outside of the u.s. would think of me without taking the chance to get to know me.

how many samalians were killed? over 1000

this is one of the us's military disasters too

don't forget the two atom bombs, killing tens of thousands with just one bomb. japan lost as much people in those two bombings as maybe 1/4 all the americans lost in wwii

Wow, nice thread. I never thought that any time at a diablo2 playing site there would be a thread that's this deep. As for my opion, people hate America because we're letting less and less emigrents (however you spell it) in here. In my opinion yeah we should start cutting down on more people coming here. It's not that I don't want people here.
People who come here often get taken advantage of. Not all, but some. I know it's the majority of people who come here illegal. Before you say though that we should let all people here because I said the majority of people taken advantage of are illegal, but think if we let everyone here there would be too much people everywhere. As the jobs move over sea's there are less and less jobs here for people to make a living and with the growing population think of whats thats going to do.

Additional note: I'm only addressing part of the sector of why everyone hates America. Don't get confused that I"m saying it's all about how many people we are letting in.

What a foolish thing to say.... What do the Native Americans have to do with present day America? Was the rest of the world hating us back in the 1700's too? No. Thats right, the 1700's and earlier... Everything that happened with the Native Americans was CENTURIES (plural) ago. Shall we dwell on it a little longer? Or do you think the Native Americans that are still around would like to go back to their old ways living in teepees and hunting buffalo? I have known plenty of natives(they're not extinct or even near that...) and NONE of them have any opinion against our government because of things that happened well over 200 years ago. Times have changed. What would you suppose should be done? Does something that happened that long ago make present day America a terrible place? If so.... I challenge you to find a country where nothing bad has ever been done by the government.
