First, go into your bios before the computer boots up and make sure that you can detect the harddrive. Newer MB's usually auto detect as long as your jumper is set correctly on the HD. Good Luck

Well the one is was using two days ago was an Aopen. and the one im usin now is an Asus, im thinking on Asus's site for any help now. Btw the only reason why i have so many problems is because im either upgradeing my computer or I am fixing someone else's comp.

the worst that happens is i gotta put back in my other motherboard.

To answer your post shane i tryed that it doesnt detect the harddrive, but it does detect my Cd R/Rw drive

Pamela says just kick the computer...that always works for me.I tried a hard stare down at it ...but it lasts longer than I do.When all else fails I kick my best friend and make him fix it. This works really amazingly well.

hahaha nice Pam, Alfz
Woot, are you using sata or pata?
pata is the gray ribbon cable. (the same as what connects the cd drives)
im beginning to suspect that you may have a dead hard drive. but keep on trying

There are two things you can try that I know of:

1 Make sure that the last device on your cable is master, so maybe your cd rom. Then, make the second device, your HD, slave.

2 You can set the jumpers to cable select and the device on the end will be master and the device in the middle will be slave.

One other thing, if your using a Western Digital drive and it is the only device on the cable, then remove all jumpers and attach it to the last position on the IDE cable. Good luck

And another thing, it definitely sounds like your having a hardware issue to me. It seems like your jumpers are F'ed up some how. To be safe, take out your HD and CD Rom and look at the jumper settings. One has to be master and one has to be slave or you can try the cable select method. Until you can see your devices in the bios, your computer will not boot. Good luck again

You have two IDE busses on your motherboard. If your HD is set as primary slave then try this: set your HD jumper to cableselect and put the HD on the end of the IDE cable. This should make your HD primary master in the bios. Since your CDROM is the only device on the secondary IDE bus, you might as well set the jumper to cable select and place on the end of the IDE cable, just like the HD. If you follow these steps, you should be able to detect both devices in the bios. The HD should be first and Master. Next should be the CDROM and it should be master of the secondary bus as well. Good luck

One more thing, if your bios does detect the HD, make sure it has been selected in your boot devices.
