looking at buying a laptop
#1
I currently have a PC with specs below,

Dual Core duo @ 3.00GHZ
nvidia 8800GTS 640mb (think thats what it is)
2gb ram, not sure what speed
P35neo motherboard
320gb HD

Since my parents left to another town and the only place my work would get for me is a lil dog box so i don't have enough room for my pc. I'm looking for a Laptop that im willing spend around 3-4 grand on. anyone know any trusted websites i should buy from or any laptop set ups i should go for?

I live in australia so australian sites please.

thanks in advance

Does size matter? What are you looking for in it?

Im an auzie too, my last laptop I got from dell.com.au shipping only takes a few days for it to turn up on your door!

Will the dell's you can get the Core 2 Duo + SLI graphics etc with 17" screen Smile

Start customising one from this page here

For warranty go Dell Care Plus. Its like $400 but covers your for everything for three years. Even if you spill water on it. I've had the screen and HDD go on mine after 2 years, they just send someone to your door to replace the parts on the spot Smile

ok thanks alot, just one thing i heard and that is that dell comes with alot of programs that you don't need, just wondering if yours did and does it take much to delete?

Is it worth paying an extra $300 for the T9500 which is only .1ghz faster or should i just stick with the T9300 and save 300

It comes will some dell gear pre-loaded yea. Easy to remove via control panel.

Easiest thing is to make sure when you order the laptop it comes with the Windows CD/DVD and not just pre-loaded. then as soon as you get it just re-format c:\ and install windows fresh and start from scratch how you like it.

oh yeh easy as, just a few more questions worth going for the dual 512 8800m GTX or is the dual 256mb 8700m good enough for now?

does the physics accelerator make much of a difference and is it worth the $227?

Depends on your budget, but with laptops its alot easier to get the best you can when you first buy it, as they are not really easily upgradeable like desktops.

Physx Accelerator handles all the physics of a game and takes the load of the GFX Card GPU. But at the moment there are limited game titles that are programmed to work with it. List Here

I used to work for Dell and I can vouch for those programs being easy to get rid of and no spy-ware to be found, I believe there is an option to have them install only the essentials though.

Also, I looked up the two procs and the only difference I see is the .1 clock speed and .5 on cache speed so you're not going to see enormous gains with it. Unless the $300 isn't much to you I'd just stick with the T9300.

cheers for that, when i buy the laptop ill look into just getting the essentials installed. I will most likely be buying it off the web not by phone so is there an option on there for just the essentials to be installled?
Im just sticking with the T9300 can't really see the point of wasting $300 for the small improvements the T9500 offers.
