Hitachi's coming out with a 500 GB hard drive, should be release late this year, thats insane, get a comp that can hold like 4 HD's, and load em up with 4 of those
they say it can hold about 200 hours of video
01-08-2005, 06:07 PM
Why would you need a 500gb drive?
Plus, those things with be thousands of dollars. ![]()

i'm guessing it will be like 600 bux, cause an 80 gig is like 80-100, so, if you calculate it, thats between 500 and 625 buxs for a 500 gig, i would rather spend that and get a new mother board, and proccessor, and turn my comp into a dual proccessor.

It'll be much more than that, because:
A) It's brand new. B) If it's only Hitachi that's doing it right now, they'd have a Monopoly on 500gb drives and people would be forced to buy from them if they really needed it, allowing them more profit. ![]()

yeah, but even if they charge a whole lot, the more they charge, the less people will buy it, besides, most people wont even use half of that, the average computer (familiy comp that is), uses between a 40-80 gig HD, people will just see 500 as never being used
01-08-2005, 06:31 PM
which is precisely why I think it's stupid to manufacture something like that.

Pantallica the most it will be is 750$, because it isn't just Hitachi that has a 500 HD coming out.
And wtf man? When have you heard of any component for your computer that would cost more then 2,000$? Beside's aybe your processor, but even then it's gonna be a dual of the best.

I've seen server motherboards that go for more than $10 000
My dad is a technician, so I've seen alot of kickass computer shit. ![]()

That's for a fu**ing server though, not a normal everyday computer.
01-08-2005, 07:09 PM
I doubt I'll ever even fill my 40, so meh!!!
01-08-2005, 07:11 PM
And what kind of everyday normal computer will need 500gb? I have a server in the other room which hosts 114 gb of music. That's even way too much. My personal computer has an 16 gb HDD, and I only need to use a little of it for diablo and all my IM's and stuff.
500gb is way too much. ![]()

I know quite a few designer's that wouldn't mind having a 500 gig HD, and it realy isn't all taht far from an everyday comp, I mean at Best Buy I'm starting to see 250's as a standard.
01-08-2005, 07:37 PM
i have 40gb and i haven't even filled half of that yet.
01-09-2005, 09:15 AM
whats the point of 500gb.......i seriously doubt u can fill all of that by the time the price drops atleast $200
