What? I've never used a floppy at all with an XP installation (except for loading SATA drivers, but that's different). Maybe someone else knows what you're talking about.
Please help, trying to use a 250 gb hard drive with XP!

well what i do is use a windows 98 startup disk, format C: in dos, then restart my computer with these like 5 or 6 floppy disks then it reboots my computer and i insert the windows xp disk and install from there
anyone else know how id install windows xp onto a new hard drive without it not having a operating system on it? or does someone know what im talking about with the 5 or 6 floppy disks? *ps im not the smartest with computers*

You don't need to install XP over an existing windows OS of any kind; it should install perfectly fine on a unpartitioned drive (well...almost perfectly, as you can see from this thread there are some issues).

sorry for all the questions... but what do i do then, put the harddrive into my computer, pop the windows xp disk into the drive start it up and it will just install?

You just have make sure you're set to boot from the CD (option is in the BIOS), and you'll be fine.

oh so do i press something at the screen that first pops up when i start my computer?

To enter the BIOS yes. It's most likely either del, F2, or F12. What kind of computer do you have? Once you get into the BIOS select CD ROM as the first boot media like I said, and then reboot with the XP CD in.

I meant like Dell or Gateway etc. If you know what kind of computer (or the mtherboard if it's custom) you can figure out what key you need to press to enter the BIOS.
SiS Sandra should tell you this info: http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/index.html?d...angx=en&a=

There is only one floppy disk needed for Windows 98/ME, and that is the Start Up disk. Sorry, that just kind of annoyed me. I am getting a new computer and now I will know what I am getting myself into. FYI, my old computer has Windows ME. I don't know that much about XP, besides it's layout, so this will help me a lot.

i've got a 300 GB seagate... :O
no problems out of it.

I hope I don't have any problems once I get XP. I have been using Windows ME and Windows 98SE for the past 7 years. Well.. Windows ME was out 4 or 5 years ago, but before I was using Windows 98SE. Lots and lots of problems, I think I have formatted my computer over 40 - 50 times in that time. Anyways, I hope XP doesn't become a bitch once I get it. I am getting new computer in two days.
