Wait, to stay on topic, isn't there a mix between state laws. Where if a gay couple are married in one state, but move to a state that doesn't support gay marrige, then isn't is invalid?

the last time i heard, you could get married in another state and go to another.

But there was a big uprising because people would get married in one state and the other state wouldn't regognize them as married because it was against the law in that state.

according to the full faith and credits clause-Article 4 section1 of the constitution, states are normaly required to honor the public acts and judicial decisions that take place in other states.
in 2003, massachusetts rules that gays and lesbians can marry. vermont said the same in 1999. HOWEVER, 38 states have passed "defense of marriage acts" that define marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Congress passes the Defense of Marriage Act in 1996 which said that states will NOT have to recognize a same sex marrriage, even if it is legal in another state. This act also said that the federal gov wont recognize same sex marriage either.
