Being a guitar player myself, and having watched both videos I have a few things to say. First, you can speed pick better than I can. Congrats! Like you, I've never had lessons either.... and speed picking just kind of fails me, i don't really understand it. Though you can do it, you haven't mastered it yet. You're always hitting the wrong string when trying to switch from your g string to your d string.... that drives me absolutely bonkers. Secondly, ANYONE can play drop D power chords like you man.... it's nothing new. I'm not knocking it, you're making good progression I suppose. But it's nothing original, creative, or even difficult to play power chords like that. Thirdly, your rendition of the Sweet child of mine solo bites. You can hit the notes, but you need to put some serious work into your bends. Your bends are ALL off by at least a half step. This looks like something you learned in ten mnutes and just threw online to waste someone's bandwidth. You didnt even play the whole solo! When you got to the more difficult part near the end, you stumbled and the video cut out, whichy leads me to believe you can't really play the whole solo. You have the technique of the solo down, but you lack heart. When I learn to paly something, I learn it because I like it. A solo should have some feeling to it. When you did it, it sounded like a bunch of notes that happened to be in the right key and scale thrown together. No feeling in it, know what I'm saying?

Good progress, keep it up and before long you'll be playing the eruption solo. You know... van halen? Try learning some tapping. It's fun. Also check out Steve Vai, John Petrucci, Joe satriani. You'll like them. I wanted to help, instead of WTFOMG you SUCKZORS! Good work, with another year of practice, you'll be pretty good if you keep working like you have. You're not good yet, but you've got potential. And don't let any of those other guys tell you guitar players are good after 3 or 4 months. They don't know what they're talking about.

aight guys...first of all thank you jedimaster for telling me which forum to post in...second of all thank u ALOT to whoever gave me support...

toiletsupernova, i really cant play the whole solo, in the end wen he starts using the wammy bar, i cant do that, i never experimented too much with the wammy bar and i dont really know how to use it correctly, thats y i just played sumthing different at the end.

also, the first vid i put up, actually i wasnt planning on putting that vid up, ill explain to u guys y that vid sucked so much...it took me like an hour to set up everything for the recording...i had to find the cam, find the cam stand, most of all, the thing that ate up the time was fixing the mic and setting up everything...so after doing various sound tests, i was ready...then i thought that i will record a TEST VIDEO to see everything was rite...and the thing is, that vid i put up IS the test video...bcoz after i got done recording the test vid, i got annoyed and tired and didnt want to record ne thing else...thats y that first vid sucked so much....

also, to "fast pick", its really called tremelo, u have to rest ur wrist on the bridge of the guitar...i really never knew that...wen u rest ur wrist on the bridge, then u pick way way faster! and to tremelo, u just kinda vibrate ur whole hand up and down, u dont rotate ur wrist...

also, wat do u ean my bends r off by a half step? do u mean i need to bend MORE or LESSER than wat i did?

btw dude, dont kid urself, that shirt SUCKS lol...thats the worst shirt i have, but its the first rock band shirt i ever got so i wear it lol...i didnt bother chaning my shirt for the video....

now ive gotten really really ƒucking serious bout playing guitar...now ima try to get lessons, and for now im gonna go online and search stuff...and im gonna push myself to the max and get ATLEAST 3 hours on weekends...yesterday i played i think 4-5 hours...most like 4:30....watch out ppl, ill be ripping b4 u realize it...

and one last point i would like to make that will clear most of this sh!t up........i can play good, but i cant improvise good!!!!!!!!!............that should clear this shit up, bcoz as far as i know, i dont suck, i just suck at improvising, i need to practice more on improvising so it gets better....btw ima make new vids soon, so keep coming to this thread, ill anounce wen theres a new vid!

ALSO BTW!!! i wasnt playing drop D u moron, i was playing standard tuning...i tuned my guitar b4 recording....on the GNR solo i did flat tuning to all strings, its how its supposed to be

alright tough guy.... don't call me a moron.... in the first video you weren't playing in drop d? you were jsut using double stops? you DO know what a double stop is right? say you are palying an open e power chord.... you would just play the A and D on the 2nd fret and leave the E out of it. i only watched the video one time... couldnt bear to sit through it again. I gave you constructive criticism.... instead of just telling you straight up that i can paly better turning my guitar over and palying left handed than you on a great day for you.

As for how your bends are off by a half step.... you don't know anything about music theory do you? Some off your bends were sharp, some flat. Can you even READ sheet music? I mean, if you can't its ok, nine out of ten guitar palyers can't. But it's because of dumb shits like you that most respectable musicians think guitarists are retards. Just wanted you to know that. Look up music theory on he internet. Matter of fact, I'll send you some things i used to use when i was less experienced. These will open your eyes a little.

Thank you for the tip on tremelo... i'll have to check it out. Also, AC/DC rules.

It's not that bad. It's just the fact that there's no rythm to it all, kinda like you just started picking and put your fingers in random spots and didn't even bother to listen to what you were doing and went with it.

If uve been playing for 1 year, u should be very good. People suck at guitar for the first few months, if u still suck now just quit it...

Music isn't a competition, and even if it was, you wouldn't be a god damned judge. Youtube is down, so alas I can't view your playing. Even if it sucks, it's your expression and it's what YOU want it to be.


That said, you cannot master a guitar in one year. Maybe string together power chords and open chords, play along with slower solos, but getting "very good.."

No, I don't know how you define very good, but I define very good as someone say.. Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Randy Rhoads, Jimmy Page, Dimebag.

At one year, in all honestly and all that shit, you should be on par with most Linkin Park songs. I've been playing right at 8 years and it still takes me weeks or even months sometimes to learn songs. And by songs, I mean songs with moderate rythms and awesome solos, ala' Domation by Pantera or Dee by Randy Rhoads.

It took me over 3 months to master Dee to a point at which I think I am in the same ballpark as Randy.

edit: Okay seriously you guys are piece of shit haters. Honestly, this kid's been playing a year and he's pretty accurate and quick. For one year, you jam.


Friendly criticism/advice: Learn the concept of keys and how to mesh chords in with scales. That way, when you jump from rythms to leads, it doesn't sound like total pigshit. If you analize a very meshed (meaning, lead and rythm player) player like say.. Zakk Wylde on his DVD 'Boozed, Broozed, and Broken Boned' on which he's constantly alterating from rythm to lead lines, it fits. If he's playing an E or A minor rythm, he always solos in E Minor natural or pentatonic/blues. It fits. I noticed a few times where it fit, and a few times where you just wanted to sound quick and go from chugs to high pitched notes. That's fine, but eventually work a little theory into your playing. I'm not asking you (i'm not asking or telling you anything, just giving you advice that has worked for me) to do anything, but this will help.

Also, it seems you're at about 75% accuracy. Key to sounding great and being more technically accomplished is being 100% accurate. Slow it down, play the licks millions of times until you've pushed it speed wise as far as you want it to go without missing a single note. Accuracy is important. Remember this: (I tried telling Pant/Chris this but I don't think he ever listened) Speed is a biproduct of accuracy. Accuracy is not a biproduct of speed.

Accuracy is essential.

Keep playing and it will come one way or another.

What is sweep picking? Is it when you pick precisely and not tremelo? Anyways I liked Lord Sunfire's comments. Some people are saying something that is more meaningfull that others. I might make a new, and better video now that I have time, becuase I have been really busy lately.
